You’re looking at my first commission, I suppose. Ready to Roar (acrylic, 20” x 24”) was painted to serve as the poster for the First Annual Texas Women’s Music Festival in early June, and the canvas will be auctioned off with proceeds going to the artists (I’ll be one of ‘em!

I haven’t painted faces before, and this one is full of imperfection, most obviously the jaw line. I sat staring at the jaw for days, pondering whether to fix or not to fix.

I kept hearing those words “Perfection is boring,” and I actually like the strength of the line. It’s what you call a Bold Mistake, and it felt completely right with the bold colors and movement elsewhere in the painting.

If you’re in Austin, come out to this festival with some of our city’s best women artists on June 4 from 4:00-10:00 pm. Visit for info and tickets.
