We look to celestial bodies and direct our prayers, changes, incantations, proclamations–we pitch them up to the skies, as though they’ll be caught, as though we’ll get an answer.
Here is one of those celestial bodies, as golden as those dreams of ours. The canvas was built with many layers of paint and has dozens of coats of gloss varnish, applied with fingertips which I’ve found provides the best results (but creates an unintended reflection in any photograph). In each corner, you’ll find a Mexican milagro representing a kind of prayer.
I finished this canvas in January. Mixed media, 12″ x 12″.
